Our Governance

Union Chapel Project (UCP) is a company limited by guarantee and licensed to omit the word Limited. It was incorporated on 19 February 1991 and is registered in England and Wales under the Companies Acts with No. 2583801. It is also a charity registered in England and Wales with Charity No. 1010166.

UCP has been appointed to manage the Union Chapel property with a view to its preservation, maintenance and wider uses for the benefit of the local community in accordance with a management agreement between UCP and the Congregational Federation Limited.

Subsidiary companies

Union Chapel Directions Limited (UCD) was incorporated on 19 April 1995 and is registered in England and Wales under the Companies Acts with No. 03047257. The trading subsidiary manages space hire for events and rehearsals and operates a bar. All profits are passed to UCP by Gift Aid.

The Margins Project (UCM) was incorporated on 25 July 2014 as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in England and Wales with the Charity Commission, Charity No. 1153070. The charitable subsidiary is a homelessness project, providing training and support services to local homeless and ex-homeless clients.

The registered office address for the company and for all subsidiaries is Union Chapel Offices, 19b Compton Terrace, London. N1 2UN.

Trustees and Executive Board

The strategic management of the charity is the responsibility of a Board of Trustees, appointed by members of the church congregation of Union Chapel, which meets at least six times a year. All Union Chapel Project trustees are unpaid volunteers.


Our Trustees

Philip Walker - Chair

A trustee of the charity for more than 15 years, Philip is a Chartered Surveyor by training and runs a small property valuation and investment consultancy. He brings to the board a wide range of commercial and business experience as well as knowledge and experience of building conservation. He is chairman of The Canonbury Society, a local pressure group.

Philip has been a member of the Union Chapel Church for more than 20 years.



Angela Cooper – Treasurer

Angela is a Chartered Accountant and was previously a Vice President at Morgan Stanley. Prior to that Angela spent eight years as an auditor working for PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK, Australia and the United States. 

Angela is also a director of Union Chapel Directions Ltd and a trustee of The Margins Project.



Karen Stallard

Karen is a Baptist minister with a background of working as a chaplain in mental health services. Karen initially trained as an actress and toured in a theatre company. She is currently studying for a MA in Psychotherapy and the Arts and has been on the board of directors of a number of small charities.

Karen is a paid Minister of Union Chapel Congregational Church, a director of Union Chapel Directions Ltd and a trustee of The Margins Project.



Gordon Montgomery

Gordon is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel & Development and has had a 30+ year career in executive search and talent management. This has included a setting up and running his own recruitment group, as well as contributing at a senior level to several listed global recruitment businesses.

Gordon is also a member of The Friends of Union Chapel. 



Graham White

Graham has been a teacher and researcher for over 30 years. His current post is at Queen Mary, University of London, researching logic, phenomenology and human action. Previous posts have included Marburg, Cambridge and Cairo Universities.

Graham has been a member of Union Chapel Church for over 20 years.
